Enrica: Rising Above Barriers with Strength and Purpose

At just 20 years old, Enrica, a mother of one from Katutura, Windhoek, has already overcome more challenges than many face in a lifetime. Living in a single-parent household, she dropped out of school in Grade 9 due to pregnancy and the stigma and inaccessibility she experienced as a young woman with a disability. Mainstream education systems offered little support — until she found Lidar Community Foundation.

Through Lidar’s six-week skills training program, paired with ongoing SRHR workshops, Enrica gained more than technical skills — she discovered confidence, self-worth, and a renewed sense of possibility. With encouragement from Lidar, she no longer saw her disability as a limitation.

Thanks to Lidar’s employment partnership with Gondwana Collection Namibia, Enrica began working as a Housekeeper at Namib Desert Lodge. Recognizing her dedication and potential, she was later promoted to the Front Office reception—a milestone achievement that reflects her personal growth and professionalism.

Gondwana’s inclusive policies and supportive environment for persons with disabilities played a key role in her journey. Enrica speaks with deep appreciation for finding a workplace that not only welcomed her but made her feel at home:

Through Gondwana’s non-discrimination values and Lidar’s support, I found a second home — a place that sees my abilities, not my limitations.

Today, Enrica proudly supports her son, motivates others with similar challenges, and advocates for the inclusion of all young mothers — regardless of background, education, or disability:

Lidar is a safe haven. No matter who you are or where you come from, there is a place for you.

Her photo, taken at her workplace in uniform, shows a confident, radiant young woman ready to keep growing—and helping others grow too.
