About us
Who we are
The women and girls who walk through our doors arrive as vulnerable individuals —but we make them part of community. A sisterhood. A movement.
The Lidar Community Foundation was founded with a simple yet powerful vision: to create a world where no girl or young woman is left behind because of her circumstances.
Based in Windhoek’s Katutura Central, our foundation began by offering capacity-building and empowerment programmes for orphaned and vulnerable girls. Over time, we’ve grown into a trusted community hub—where young mothers, schoolgirls, and tertiary students come not just for skills development, but for connection, confidence, and care.
Our work is rooted in empathy and the understanding that education and emotional support are transformative tools.
What we do
1. We provide immediate care for vulnerable moms (food and shelter)
2. Provide long-term outcomes through a 6 week skills and education program for the moms
Our approach
Our Mission
Our mission is to provide a comprehensive support system for vulnerable young mothers and marginalized women, empowering them with the skills and resilience needed to build sustainable, independent lives.
Founded and officially registered as a non-profit organization in 2017, Lidar Community Foundation is based in Katutura Central, Windhoek, Namibia. . We focus on creating real, life-changing opportunities by providing targeted vocational training, psychosocial support, and personal development.
Our Challenges
Lidar Community Foundation operates without a consistent or diversified funding source, relying instead on project-based support from partners who contribute for limited periods.
Over the past decade, we’ve collaborated with numerous organizations, delivering impactful programs for young women, yet we have no steady financial backing to secure long-term growth.
Presently, our active partnerships include:
- Y+ GLOBAL in partnership with Her Voice Fund: Ongoing support to amplify the voices and priorities of adolescent girls, young women, and young mothers
- GONDWANA CARE TRUST
- The Christine King Memorial Trust (UK)
Our past partnerships include support from:
- UNFPA and Regain Trust, with funding from the Japanese government,
- Social Security Commission Development Fund,
- Project Hope Namibia,
- ITECH, and
- Standard Bank of Namibia
- TIKA – Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency

A CALL FOR HELP
Unfortunately, we have no other current funders, though our needs are ongoing and substantial. Operational costs remain high, and we continually seek support for materials, transport, CV development, and meals for both mothers and children, as well as for business start-up kits to launch micro-businesses.
