Brenda’s Story: From Hopelessness to a Life of Purpose

Brenda, a young mother from one of Windhoek’s informal settlements, arrived at Lidar Community Foundation carrying the heavy weight of despair. With two young children to care for and no means to support them, she was searching for a new beginning—something to restore her dignity and sense of purpose.

She enrolled in Lidar’s six-week training program, where she gained valuable skills in kitchen work, participated in SRHR workshops, and received emotional and psychosocial support. Throughout the program, Brenda was guided through a process of growth, healing, and hope.

Her journey didn’t end there.

Thanks to Lidar’s partnership with Gondwana Collection, Brenda was placed in formal employment and now works as a kitchen assistant at Gondwana’s Kalahari Anib Lodge. With stable income and new confidence, she is now able to support her children and extended family.

Lidar changed my life. I came in hopeless, but I left with direction, strength, and the ability to care for my family. I encourage other young mothers—no matter your background—to join this program. Lidar is a true place of second chances.

Brenda’s story is a testament to the power of compassion, training, and opportunity. Her transformation inspires others and reinforces why continued support for young mothers through programs like Lidar is vital.
